Historic Arch Damaged in Attapur; AIMIM Seeks Restoration and Action Against Culprits

Hyderabad: A historic arch near pillar number 97 at Attapur was damaged on Sunday night, October 18, prompting the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) to demand its restoration and action against those responsible.

AIMIM Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin visited the site in Srinivasanagar after receiving information from local leaders. Speaking to Siasat.com, the MLA said the arch had stood for centuries and that a portion of the structure had been demolished.

Mohiuddin said the police had arrested the alleged culprit. He added that officials from the Telangana Waqf Board and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) were inspecting the site.

However, the Golconda Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) stated that a complaint was yet to be registered and that further action would be taken based on the complaint.

Meanwhile, P Nagaraju, Deputy Director of the Archaeology Department, said the structure did not fall under his department's jurisdiction. He stated that the arch came under the purview of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and directed further queries to the agency.

The HMDA had not responded to calls from Siasat.com at the time of publication.

AIMIM has called for the restoration of the historic structure and action against those responsible for damaging it. Further developments are awaited.
