Travel is free for women on AC buses: Chief Minister Chandrababu

Andhra Pradesh government has decided to make women's travel completely free on all AC buses operating throughout the state to improve women's transportation convenience. This decision was officially announced through a statement recently made by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The government aims, through this measure, to reduce women's transportation costs, increase women's participation in the public transport system, and strengthen their safety.

In line with this policy, the state transport corporation (APSRTC) is already implementing schemes that include reserved seats for women in buses, CCTV cameras required for safe travel, and special training for drivers. Additionally, this free travel scheme is designed to ensure long‑term financial stability by allocating dedicated funds in the government budget.

Various social organizations, women's rights activists, and public transport users welcomed the decision positively. They said that the measure will lower travel costs for women's education, employment, and health services, thereby increasing social equality. However, some economic experts suggested that the government needs alternative revenue sources to reduce the budget burden. Overall, this new policy is considered a significant step toward improving the standard of living for women in the state.
