Hyderabad: A political controversy erupted during Dasara celebrations at Ram Maidan in Sitarambagh, Hyderabad, after Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) workers reportedly replaced the traditional cutouts of Lord Ram and Ravana with those of BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
The incident took place on Monday, October 19, and reportedly led to a minor scuffle at the venue.
In the display, KCR’s cutout was depicted aiming an arrow at Revanth Reddy’s face, recreating the traditional Dasara symbolism of good triumphing over evil, in which an effigy of Ravana is burnt.
Cutout Carries Allegations Against Congress Government
The cutout depicting Revanth Reddy also featured allegations levelled by the BRS against the Congress government. These included references to the alleged “22A scam”, “HCU scam” and “15% in Secretariat”.
The BRS has been raising these allegations against the ruling Congress government. The references appeared on the cutout as part of the political display.
Congress Leader Objects, Cutouts Removed
The display reportedly triggered objections from Congress workers. Local Congress leader Mettu Sai Kumar reached the venue and eventually got the cutouts removed.
The incident highlights the political tensions between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS in Telangana, with the traditional Dasara celebrations becoming the backdrop for a political protest.
