AISA President Neha Bora was released early Saturday after being taken into preventive custody ahead of the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest march in New Delhi. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke was arrested and is scheduled to appear before the Special Executive Magistrate court. Police said around 150 people were detained to maintain law and order.

New Delhi: All India Students’ Association (AISA) President Neha Bora was released early Saturday morning, October 17, while Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was scheduled to be produced before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court, Delhi Police said.

Both leaders were taken into preventive custody ahead of the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest march at Connaught Place in New Delhi.

According to police, Bora was released after completing the formalities related to her detention under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act. Meanwhile, action was initiated against Dipke under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). He was subsequently arrested and was expected to appear before the SEM court later in the day.

Police sources said Bora was detained at Mandi House on Friday, while Dipke was taken into custody at Jhandewalan as both were heading towards Connaught Place.

AISA alleged that Bora was moved between several locations across Delhi for nearly five hours after her detention before being taken to the RK Puram police station. The organisation further claimed that lawyers who reached the police station around midnight were not allowed to meet her.

AISA also alleged that the police did not clarify when Bora would be released and refused to provide her with medicines despite knowing that she had been unwell for the previous few days.

According to Delhi Police, around 150 people were detained as a preventive measure to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic movement during the protest.

Security arrangements were tightened in the Connaught Place area, with personnel cordoning off Central Park. Rapid Action Force personnel were deployed inside the park, while additional security forces were stationed nearby.
